The other day I was walking toward the downtown area of my town when I saw these really cool looking birthday cake toppers through the glass of the corner bakery. They were sitting atop this magnificent cake, which had to cost at least $1,000, and looked like a piece of artwork instead of dessert. I walked inside to get a closer look at it and as soon as I went in there I recognized one of my ex-girlfriends working behind the register. It’d been ages since we’d spoken and after catching up for a few minutes we both realized that we were incredibly happy to see one another.
We ended up going out for a drink later that evening and she was telling me all about her life. She said that she wasn’t very happy and that every time someone comes in there and buys something that has birthday candles on it she gets really sad. I told her that all of us are getting older and there’s really nothing you can do about it, so you should make the most of the time you have. She totally agreed with what I said and then she said that she wanted to give it another try with me, because she always felt that I was the one.
